Dan Sexton : «The biggest change in the last 3 years that have come for me is the birth of my daughter»

Welcome back, Dan Sexton!

-  Dan, how are you spending your vacation?

-  I have been spending my summer in Florida and Minnesota.

- You sent us a video with palm trees on the background. Could you tell, where do you spend your vacation with family?

-  Florida is where the palm trees came from on the video I made. 

- How do you stay in shape and how do you spend your free time?

- I spend my free time training in the gym, roller blading, going to the beach, golfing, and fishing. I love to do all of these things to stay active. 

- Could you recommend some movie or book for our fans to watch and read during this summer?

- I have not watched much tv or movies this summer because I stay so busy with my family and different activities outdoors. If I had to recommend a show, it would be «Yellowstone» and «Ozark». A good book I read a while ago was King of Russia. It was about Dave King’s time in the KHL. Very enjoyable book.

- Could you share with us, what has changed in your life during those three years while you were not on our team?

- The biggest change in the last 3 years that have come for me is the birth of my daughter, Shay. She is now almost 2 years old and has been so fun to watch every day this summer. I missed her a lot while I was gone all last season. 

- With what feeling will you put on a Neftekhimik jersey again?

- I will be very excited and proud to put on the Nizhnekamsk jersey again. It was a special place for me to be able to play 5 seasons and now looking forward to the 6th. 

- Will you choose number 42?

- I don’t know which number I will wear for this season. Of course, I wouldn’t mind putting number 42 back on.

- Have you watched the World Hockey Championship or do you prefer to forget about hockey during summer?

- I have watched almost all of the NHL playoffs this summer. It has been very fun for me to watch the high level of hockey. The World Championships I didn’t follow very closely because of the time difference. Other years I will watch it much more than I did this year. 

- You are American and have been working in Russia for a very long time. What myths about our country have been confirmed and in general how does Russia seem to you?

- I have been in Russia for 8 seasons and it seems to get better and better every year. I truly enjoy it there and love playing in the KHL. There are definitely things about Russia that people misunderstand and I always tell people how much I like playing and living in Russia. I have been treated very well as an American living in Russia. 

- Now our club is focusing on the young audience of fans who just getting acquainted with hockey. Could you tell them in a few words, what is interesting about hockey as opposed to other sports?

- It is great for the club to focus on young fans and people who are new to the sport of Hockey. I would say that it is the fastest game on Earth and can be the most exciting once you figure out how to watch the puck and how plays happen on the ice. 

- Sure, you remember the song «American boy» after you scoring goals. Maybe you would like to change it to another one? Which one for example?

- I do remember the old goal song. It is pretty funny I think. I am fine with this song if that is what the fans like the best. Otherwise, we can try and change it to something new and fresh. Maybe the fans should vote on this!

- Our fans were really excited when they got to know, that the Neftekhimik signed you. What would you like to say to our fans before the start of the season?

- All I would like to say to the fans of Neftekhimik is that we will have a team that will give 100% on the ice at all times and play knowing that the fans support us greatly. A lot is possible if we believe in our team and play for each other every game this year.
