Neftekhimik Head Coach Igor Grishin speaks with the media after a following 5–3 win over Admiral.
– I would like to thank Admiral for accommodating us and moving the game back by two hours. You know, our game against Barys was rescheduled by a day, and had we played at the original time, it would have been extremely tough for us. You could see from the first period that the guys really struggled with the travel. But what can you do? That is the situation. Thank goodness we managed to pull through. The guys did a great job.– Did you expect Admiral to start so aggressively?
– Of course. The opponent knew we had had a grueling journey. It was to be expected. We had to withstand that initial pressure. We did manage to weather the storm, even though we conceded two early goals. We calmly discussed everything during the intermission, came out with a completely different mindset, and gradually steered the game toward a win. That shows the team is maturing and gaining confidence. It is great to see.
– Your team converted two power plays, but the five–minute power play did not help the team to...
– You know, power plays do not always work out. I would not say the guys came out with the wrong mindset today. Sometimes, when a team gets a five-minute power play, players might think they have plenty of time and do not need to rush. That was not the case today. I have to say, the home team defended well, and their goaltender played a great game.
