Neftekhimik will play its first of three road games. Neftekhimik is on a two–game losing streak.

Sibir will play its second of three home games. Sibir won its last game.

Career Milestone:

Neftekhimik forward Andrei Belozyorov may score his 100th career assist (currently at 99).

Injuries:

Sibir: Mikhail Abramov, Daniil Valitov, Maxim Osipov.

Sibir currently sits tenth in the Eastern Conference with 19 points, just two points behind Admiral, which occupies eighth place (21 points). Sibir has played two more games than its Far Eastern counterparts. Neftekhimik, with 25 points, ranks third in the East, where the standings remain tightly packed. As a result, any misstep by one team immediately benefits the entire chasing pack.

The series gains extra intrigue because this is the teams’ third head-to-head game of the season. On September 16, Neftekhimik won in Novosibirsk 3–0 (goals from Khlystov, Khoruzhev, and Nadvorny), and on October 4 it defeated the Siberian side at home 3–2 (goals from Bikmullin, Zhafyarov, and Andreychenko). The “Wolves” therefore lead the season series 2–0.

What Kind of Sibir Is This?
On home ice, Sibir remains a formidable force. In its most recent outing, the team dismantled Eastern Conference leader Metallurg Magnitogorsk 5–2. For Metallurg Mg that was its first defeat under new head coach Konstantin Shafranov. With the home crowd fired up, Sibir is clearly capable of stopping anyone.

Key players for the hosts include defenseman Darren Dietz (19 points, including 11 assists) and forward Alexander Yaremchuk (5 goals), who arrived from Torpedo in September as part of a trade for Alexei Yakovlev.

Sibir Roster Moves

This season, the Novosibirsk-based club is performing some intense “surgery” on its roster:
Taylor Beck and Fyodor Gordeyev have been placed on waivers. Beck, a Canadian, joined the team as a potential leader for the power play, but he managed only 5 points and a –6 plus-minus rating over 11 games, failing to meet the coaching staff’s expectations. Gordeyev, 27, lost his spot in the defensive rotation and appeared in only two games.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, a Stanley Cup champion, had his contract terminated in early October; he had recorded four points in eight games.

17-year-old forward Ivan Ryabov was included in the lineup for the game against Metallurg, marking his KHL debut. Meanwhile, Ivan Mishchenko has returned to action following an injury.

Heading into this game, Neftekhimik has earned five of a possible ten points over its last six games. That stretch included road victories against Lokomotiv (1–0) and Avangard (3–2), followed by two consecutive losses: a 3–2 overtime defeat to Metallurg and a 4–3 loss to Admiral.
