Neftekhimik will play its first of three road games. Neftekhimik is on a three–game winning streak.
Sibir will play its third of three home games. Sibir lost its last game.
The start of the regular season was a real mixed bag for Sibir Novosibirsk. They opened their road trip in Kazan against Ak Bars, playing a competitive game but ultimately falling in a shootout (3–4 SO). At their next stop in Astana, however, they suffered an unexpected 1–7 loss to Barys – a result that hardly reflects the team's true quality. Returning home proved to be just what the doctor ordered. In front of their own fans, Sibir looked like a different team, putting in a disciplined, tight-checking defensive effort to earn a solid 2–0 win over a tough Amur Khabarovsk side. But the next home game, against a formidable Avtomobilist, ended in another defeat 2–5.
Head-to-Head History
Historically, games in Novosibirsk have been extremely tough for Neftekhimik. They are always tense, hard–fought battles with plenty of physical play and scuffles. Today, the cost of a mistake will be entirely different.
The last three official regular-season meetings between these rivals went our way: 3–1 and 5–2 in Novosibirsk (on January 17 and February 4, respectively) and 1–0 in Nizhnekamsk on February 22 of this year. Those games are in the past now. The upcoming matchup suggests neither side should expect an easy ride.
