Neftekhimik is getting ready to welcome Admiral Vladivostok on home ice. This game matters a great deal to Neftekhimik. They have already beaten the Far Eastern club twice this season: 2–1 in Nizhnekamsk on September 13, and 5–3 on September 27, when they came back from two goals down after a long flight from Astana.
The teams currently occupy opposite ends of the standings: Neftekhimik is second in the Eastern Conference, while Admiral is ninth. The points gap, however, is small – Admiral have 19 points and sit only six behind, with a game in hand, so the real margin is even tighter. The visitors come to Nizhnekamsk from Tolyatti, where they beat Lada two days ago.
Admiral’s roster was touched on in an earlier preview, but the offseason brought a major overhaul: more than half the squad has changed.
Among the departures are Stepan Starkov (traded to Metallurg), Arkady Shestakov (Barys), Nikita Tertyshny, Vladislav Kara, Vladimir Bryukvin, defenseman Ruslan Pedan, and goaltender Adam Húska. Semyon Ruchkin (now with Neftekhimik) and Georgy Solyannikov, both key parts of the defense over the past two seasons, have also left. Key arrivals: forwards Alexander Volkov (on loan from Lokomotiv), Anthony Camara (back in the KHL from Germany; he has played for Neftekhimik and Barys), Artyom Pimenov (Salavat Yulaev), and Mikhail Grass (from Metallurg via trade), plus young players Dmitry Mukhtarov and Maxim Musorov; defensemen Grigory Vashchenko (Severstal), Kirill Zhukov (Metallurg), and Fyodor Kroshchinsky (Neftekhimik); and goaltenders Dzhelal-ad-Din Amirbekov (Metallurg) and Nikita Boyarkin (Barys).
